A new study has shown that the reason behind an inflated stomach (when you haven’t overeaten, of course) is intestinal bacteria reacting to gluten.
If a person is intolerant to gluten, he may have may have celiac disease. Gluten is the protein found in cereals including rye, wheat and barley.
If a person with celiac disease ingests gluten, the immune system reacts by damaging the small intestine. This can cause abdominal pain, diarrhea, bloating and fatigue, among other things.
What should you do?
Stop ingesting gluten for a few days. If you see improvements, continue with this diet. However, if you don’t see any improvements, you should immediately consult with your doctor, as your problem isn’t gluten related.
Many people carry extra weight as a result of an allergic reaction to gluten. So, there’s no reason to not try this kind of diet.
